The Spirit Lives On!
The day of garage businesses are not a thing of the past, they are the hope of today. People of all ages are seeking the right moment, and the right opportunity to grasp freedom. Freedom from the nine to five jobs, Freedom from those menial daily tasks that chase away self worth, and Freedom from financial uncertainty. Please do not misunderstand, I am in no way claiming that owning, and operating a small business is in anyway a simple task. I will claim that work feels less and less like work when the work you do is the work that you are passionate about.
I remember a professor I had used to say that “if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail”. I do not know where he got the saying, but I know that most of us did not plan to work 60 hour work weeks for lower pay and more stress. I know what many of you are thinking: “you do not understand. I need this job this is all I know how to do.” You may be correct in that statement or you may have heard it so many times that you are starting to believe it. I know that I did, but not any more. I believe that our dream is just around the next corner if we are willing to plan for it.
I have heard it said that the only difference between dreams and goals is that dreams happen while you sleep, and goals are being made while you are awake. Are you willing to start putting the two together and see just what you are capable of achieving? I work with people every week who have a dream about starting a business or getting their life back on track and we always start at the same place regardless of age, income, or the job they have. We start by dreaming big dreams, setting even bigger goals. You will be amazed that when the goals you set include the work you are passionate about work will begin to feel less like work, and more like an opportunity.
When setting these goal there are specific steps that can be taken to unlearn what you have be taught and learn how to dream and set goals. The first step is to eliminate mental obstacles. Find out what it is in your mind that keeps you from dreaming your dream. Then take that obstacle and throw it through your nearest window. (Not literally!) Then see just what you can come up with. Remember that your dream can always grow bigger then what it is today.
