Swallo-tailed Kites, Gallinules, And Frigates

I don’t usually trek far to go birding. My trips are generally local. However, I teamed up with a birding partner from the past to do just that. My partner on this trip was someone with whom I birded in the last century (mid-eighties). So, when I got the email inviting me and others to join him on an all day birding trip, I couldn’t refuse. Thus began the rearranging of schedules and ordinary demands to accommodate this adventure which would begin 100 miles from home before dawn.

Sunshine, No Matter What the Weather is
By Carine Nadel

It hadn’t been long-3 months that our home had been pet-less. First, we lost our 13 year old cat Snowy. Then we lost our 12 year old dog Lucky.

We were a family of four and my husband and I ran a home day care with a dozen kids daily but the house felt empty. We had never been without a “furry” kid.
We were heartbroken at these losses.

How To Teach Your Dog Not To Jump Up On Visitors

There are two approaches you can take to this very common problem.

Either will work. One is more work than the other. And some people say one is more gentle and humane than the other.

You will need to choose one technique and consistently apply it.

(1) Use your knee

This is the one that even non-dog owners know about.

The dog comes up to you, quivering with excitement. He rears up to place his paws on your stomach or chest. You turn sideways just before he is able to put his paws on you, and raise your knee so he meets a hard, pointed-but-blunt object. After hanging on that for a second or two he drops to the ground. You win.

Cat Trees - Fun For Your Cat And You

Soft and warm and lots of fun can be a welcome addition to your household. That is if you provide them with their own furniture so they don’t scratch up yours. Cats have a natural instinct to stretch, scratch and pounce so why not give them something they can romp and play on without giving you a headache.

Cat trees range from 2 to 8 feet in height and are usually made of wood and covered in bark or carpet. The center post supports any numbers of limbs with platforms to jump and perch on to watch the world go by from above. There is usually a scratch post or posts built in. Some have tunnels to climb and hide in and some have beds or hammocks for kitty to rest and play.

Caracal

Caracal is one of the heaviest of the small cats and is a great athlete and runner. It’s unique tree climbing and jumping abilities set it apart from other wild felines. Named scientifically as Caracal Caracal it is also often called African or Persian Lynx owing to similarities in appearance with the lynx, though genetic research now suggests that it is more closely related to the Serval.

Fleas

Fleas, ticks and lice are surface dwelling parasites. Fleas are small dark insects that run through the fur rapidly. Lice are tiny grey insects that move slowly and tend to form clusters around the earflaps. Ticks look like grey warts, they are immobile as the fix their mouthparts into the skin.

Pets will show signs of infestation by grooming and scratching excessively, some pets will show signs of hypersensitivity to flee bites (the saliva) with raised red bumps on the skin.

Coping With The Death Of Your Dog

The passing away of your dog is a sad time for all pet owners and a moment we all would like to avoid altogether although it is a natural process of losing a good friend or family member there are options that can make dealing with the situation better.

It is certainly can be a big shock to you when you find out your pet has passed away and the first reaction could be that of denial. Denial is a common occurrence when dealing with loss or finding out when someone your love has passed away. This is due to your body not wanting to deal with the blow of a pet’s death and it then tries to block it out like nothing has happened.

Horseshoeing And Quarter Cracks – Causes And Fixes

Quarter cracks are vertical cracks in the hairline or coronary band of the horses hoof. They can be large or small, they can bleed and they can make a horse lame. Since the crack is sometimes an open sore its best treated in some way. Depending on the causes of the cracks they don’t all heal by themselves unless something specific is done.

The problem with dealing with quarter cracks is the movement and stresses put on the foot that spread the crack and prevent it from mending. If the horse becomes lame the problem usually can’t be ignored.
