Tips For Weight Loss
For those of us who need to lose weight for our health, it is best to focus on a lifetime of healthy living. We need to avoid the quick fix promises of the media. Here are some tips on how to do that.
Choose a physical activity that you enjoy. If you set yourself up to do exercise you hate, you probably wont do it for very long. Experiment with different types of exercise and find one that works for you.
Lose only about 2 pounds a week, more than that means you could be losing muscle. This will slow your metabolism and make it harder in the long run. The slower you lose the weight the more likely you are to keep it off.
Make changes gradually. Baby steps are the key to success. When you make small changes one at a time, you are more likely to keep them, as opposed to changing everything and then feeling out of control. Make one or two small changes a week and watch them all add up.
Set realistic goals. Set both long and short term goals that are specific and reachable. Set yourself up to win with the short term goals. This will build your confidence and self esteem. Show yourself that you can do it and you will.
Celebrate the small successes, find something that you have done right every day and celebrate it. Find things that you are doing now that are leading to better health that you weren’t doing last week and revel in your success. this will keep you excited about where you are going and the road won’t seem so long and hard.
Find ways to reward yourself that don’t include food. Go miniature golfing or for a walk in the woods. Have a card game with your friends. Something that is going to lift you up and keep you on the right path.
Follow these tips and be kind to yourself. Remember that you didn’t get where your are overnight and it will take a while to get where you want to be. Keep going, remember slow and steady wins the race.
