Incorporate More Learning Into Your Life!

Take make improvements any area of your life, you must experience learning. Leadership and learning expert Kevin Eikenberry offers five intentional things you can do to incorporate more learning into your work and your life.

If you have read anything I`ve written, you know I consider learning as the foundation upon which all improvement, development and growth is built.

Consider this - learning is required to change anything in any part of our lives! We have all been learners our whole lives, and yet as adults we often think about learning in a school context, and we “graduated” from that phase of our lives long ago. And yet, while we all do it naturally, we don’t often enough do it intentionally and consciously.

How Do You Make Decisions?

Do you procrastinate until the last moment when you need to make a decision? There is a better way!

Some leaders have a tendency to procrastinate about making decisions due to the high level of them. They frequently ask me “How do you know when it’s time to stop discussing and start acting?” There has to be a better way to get things resolved.

Rudy Guiliani addresses this common leadership dilemma in his book Leadership.

“Leaders must find a balance between speed and deliberation. One facet of making decisions involves knowing how to act when there’s not much time to deliberate.

Is Your Message Vanilla?

Ever wonder why you don’t get more referrals? Ever wonder why, when money wasn’t the issue, a prospect didn’t buy from you? It may be because of your message. (or lack of one!)

Often I’ll ask an agent why someone should do business with them. Their answer often goes something like this:

“I have good products/services, competitive pricing, and give good customer service.”

That’s a good answer, but if I went down the street to your competitor and asked them the same question, what do you think their answer would be? “Same answer.”

Providing A Blueprint For Generational Leadership

Developing an understanding of the specific ways in which Generations X and Y view the world will provide your organization with valuable insight into how to attract, sustain and motivate the younger generations. When you speak their language and they understand your language, the stage is set for better communication, increased productivity and increased profitability. I was reminded of this when one of my client’s commented, “Why do my younger employees keep talking about this whole ‘balance’ thing, when there’s work to be done?”

Top 3 Blind Spots That Hold You Hostage

Have you ever been driving in the middle lane on a three-lane highway? You are pinned in with a car in front, a car to the right and another on your left in your blind spot. You’re muttering under your breath, “Why doesn’t that stupid car move up or drop back so I can pass?” Nevertheless, no, he muddles along. Moreover, so must you. The time ticks away faster each time you look at your watch. You pace with your foot on the brake feeling trapped. Feeling stuck!

But I Was Only Borrowing Money - An Ethical Dilemma

What causes people to make unethical choices when they know it is wrong? Ask someone who has stolen money – did you ever think of yourself as a thief? Their answer is always a resounding – No! Yet, their unethical choices tend to lead them to disastrous consequences.

As a Motivational Speaker, no matter how much I share my story, people continue making unethical choices. What really saddens me is to watch people I know enter into ethical dilemmas after all I experienced and all that I share. I certainly do not withhold sharing my story, believing that telling my story helps other people.

The Different Dynamics In The Practice Of Aikido

The dynamics of Aikido leaves no room for definite styles and techniques when practicing the martial art. When Aikido was developed by Morihei Ueshiba many students sought to learn from his training in the art of Aikido

On the completion of their training the teacher encouraged all his students to open their own dojos and centers of learning so they could spread the study of his martial art. Other than simply encouraging them to start their own dojos, he also encouraged them to apply flexibility and add their own principles to the study of Aikido. This was all as long as the adhered to the basic tenets of refraining from the use of force when fighting.

Real Men With Real Tears Streaming Down Real Faces

Do you even wonder what keeps certain people going year after year? Those who read these articles must recognise by now that Paul is one of my heroes - NOT an idol, but a hero - there is an immense difference. What make Paul tick? What motivated him? What kept him so utterly faithful when so many circumstances - and people! - appeared to be going against him?

At the end of Acts Chapter 20, in the New Testament, we read of this moving scene, as Paul has this final meeting with these leaders of the Ephesian Church. He speaks of what he had done, and how he ministered during his time in Ephesus. He gives us the core - the heart - of his preaching.
